Work at Home Hat
Work at Home Enthusiasts Your Home Office Space I am fortunate at this time to have a spacious in home office which I refer to as my studio, this space satisfies all of my creative hats, but that was not always the case. |
For years I worked in very small spaces doing the best that I could and frankly I managed quite well.
Establishing your own home business has its own set of challenges but it can be an exciting prospect. Regardless if your business is to be creative or not you will need to set up a home office where you can take care of most of your business needs.
The location:
Having a separate room in your home for an office is a plus but not a necessity.
Any quiet and non distractive area can work as an office space.
Make this space comfortable and conducive to business but remember to make it your own. You want to be business inspired and fruitful every time you enter your office space.
The tools:
Equipment will vary depending on your type of business but some basic tools are needed for most home business ventures.
A work area, desk or table
A comfortable chair
Desktop or laptop computer
Printers
Scanners
Internet access
Separate phone line and fax
Some type of filing system (cabinet or baskets as to make tax season easier)
Binder or rolodex for incoming business contacts.
and your own business card - Let people know what you do!
Helpful programs and products you may want to check out:
Dropbox - Where you can save your photos and documents and access them from your computers, phones, or tablets.
Quickbook - For all your bookkeeping needs including invoicing, they also have a Mac version
Dragon Naturally Speaking - Create documents and e-mails by speaking as your computer does the typing.
Desk Organizers - Organizers for documents, folders, pens and computer cords
As with anything, it is always best to have a plan so you are able to organize the steps you need to take to get to your goals.
Go, do and have fun creating your home office.
