Smoothies are often thought by some as high calorie drinks full of sugars with yogurt or ice cream.
These are really known as milkshakes :-)
A true blended Smoothie will have an assortment of produce for an extra boost of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Smoothies are so easy to put together and the selection of healthy ingredients is almost limitless and it's also a great way to receive some of your daily colors.
When I make Smoothies I try to use fresh produce as much as possible and will often add a handful of greens but may at times also use frozen fruits and vegetables.
Some type of liquid is also needed, plain water, coconut water, natural juices or a milk of choice, just to name a few and of course a good blender.
Your smoothie may even include a little plain yogurt, some seeds such as flax or chia, a sprinkle of cinnamon, turmeric or even a small piece of ginger. The choices really are limitless.
The idea is to start with what you know and slowly try other combinations and even get a little adventurous.
Drinking a smoothie helps to incorporate healthy and beneficial nutrition into our daily health.
