1. Informational
The informational blog post format is the most common. A blog to provide information in your niche and to share with others your knowledge on a particular subject.
2. Lists
This is also a common way to blog and share information. A list blog is identified with its titles such as "7 Ways to..." and in this case "9 Types of Blogging Formats".
3. Instructional
These "How To" posts give your readers step-by-step instructions on how to do something. You can teach with videos, diagrams, illustrations and even recordings.
4. Reviews
These posts can be on pretty much anything you choose to review , products, books and more.
They should be somewhat related to your niche but it's not necessary as long as you are honest in your reviews and let your readers know about the positive and the negative or the pros and the cons.
5. Comparison
Comparison posts are when you compare two or more things.
Showing these products side by side and pointing out their different and similar features to illustrate your points.
6. Recommendations
This is similar to a review. You've tried a product or read a book, you liked it and you're recommending it.
7. Videos Blogging
If you are not shy in front of a camera this is a good way to go. For some saying it is a lot easier than writing it.
8. Inspirational
An inspirational blog post should be motivational and uplifting. It can be in the form of a story about someone overcoming adversity, reaching a goal or a success story.
Inspirational posts can also be shared with your readers through videos and quotes.
9. Personal Posts
These type of posts can be a combination of several of the posts listed above the twist is that it includes your personal journey, as in being a new mom of a child with health issues, your own health issues, mental or physical and the steps taken to live a full life.
The road and steps you took to lose weight, eat healthier, raising a child as a single parent, getting older, starting a business, writing a book and so many more. You may not think so but everyone has their own life story to share in a blog or even in a book.
"100 Days of Solitude" by Daphne Kapsali, is a great example of daily activities and emotions that became a book. "100 separate and interconnected stories on claiming the time and space to live as your true self and do what you love." Each of these individual stories could have easily been daily personal blogs.
Blogging is a personal choice and depending on your niche you can work with one of these 9 Formats or even use several of them interchangeably.
The idea is to keep your blog informative and interesting, while having fun with it.
I welcome any questions, sharing or comments you may have.
